Dr Paula Briggs
Consultant in Sexual and Reproductive Health
Paula Briggs is a Consultant in Sexual and Reproductive Health for Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust.
After qualifying from Glasgow University in 1987, Paula trained as a GP. Following a move to Liverpool in 1993, she became a GP partner in a group practice. Whilst in General Practice she also worked as a Forensic Medical Examiner for Merseyside Police Force (1994 to 2012) and was the Named Doctor for Safeguarding Children for NHS Sefton (2006-2012).
More recently, she has devoted herself to the delivery of sexual health care, research and education in the field of women’s health. She is a Fellow of the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Health Care (Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists) and has a Diploma in Gynaecology (Bradford University). She is an Honorary Senior Lecturer for Liverpool University.
She is the clinical lead for the integrated community sexual health service in Sefton and West Lancashire, and provides a Community Gynaecology Service for South Sefton CCG, working as part of a team involving eight Consultant Gynaecologists, who support the community service. Paula also works at the Liverpool Women's Hospital.
Paula has co-edited 2 books (contraception and menopause) and co-authored an undergraduate textbook in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and has been the author/co-author of nine scientific papers.
She is married with four children and enjoys running, reading and cooking.
Clinical Interests:
Medical gynaecology including heavy menstrual bleeding, sterilisation, prolapse and incontinence, genital dermatoses, subfertility, menopause management, post menopausal bleeding, contraception and screening for sexually acquired infections.
