International Nurses Day 2017

International Nurses Day

International Nurses Day is a day celebrated around the world each year on May 12th, (the anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth) to mark the fantastic contributions nurses make to society each year.

It is never easy to forget the roles that nurses play in all of our health and how key they are to our NHS and private facilities around the country.

In the UK  a service is held each year at Westminster Abbey in recognition. During the service, a symbolic lamp is passed from the Nurses’ Chapel in the Abbey and handed from nurse to nurse to the Dean of the Abbey who then place sit on the High Altar, signifying the passing of knowledge from one to another.

Sometimes referred to as the ‘super-heroes’ of our health service, nurses have an enormous amount of knowledge having spent many years perfecting them on duty. Responsible for our welfare, safety and recovery, they sometimes work in incredibly difficult circumstances in not only caring for the sick but also bringing new life into the world.

At The Sefton Suite, we are extremely fortunate to have many patients who leave great feedback for our team and in many cases, specifically our nursing team, outlining how they have made their stay as comfortable and cheery as possible, caring and comforting when necessary, laughing and smiling whenever possible.

Lets all celebrate these bastions of society together and show appreciation for their work attitudes, their knowledge, their understanding and care and their ability to make us feel good in any way they can.
