Breast Augmentation
One of the most popular cosmetic procedures in the UK, breast enlargement is designed to give a larger and better shape of the breast.
The decision to undergo breast enlargement surgery must be discussed in detail with the consultant prior to the operation. Every woman will have a different reason for the operation and careful consideration must be given to size and shape.
If you have any questions at all it is important to ask them in the initial consultation with your consultant.
There are two forms of surgery available in the UK, silicone gel and saline solution. Silicone gel out of the two is thought by many to give the most natural look and feel.
Your consultant will make a small incision under the breast (or alternatively under the armpit or nipple. Your implants will then be placed under the breast muscle and beneath the breast tissue Once the implant is in place your consultant will close the cut with disolvable stitches. The breasts will then be held in supporting dressings to keep them protected for a period after the operation. The scarring left from the stitches will be hidden.
You will be able to leave the hospital the day after the operation however we advise a member of family or friend to collect you from the hospital because of the area of surgery and the discomfort of driving a car.
Your consultant will advise you on how long to keep the dressings in place and will be on hand for any further advice should it be needed.
Strenuous activity is advised against for a period of a few weeks after the operation to allow the bruising and potential swelling to decrease.
If you are paying for your own treatment all costs will be discussed and explained prior to any treatment taking place. This will be confirmed in writing along with any surgeon fees, anaesthetist fees and hospital charges prior to admission.
