Laparoscopic Gastric Balloon

A gastric balloon was developed with the aim of making the patient feel fuller quicker and for longer. This is a fabulous way to lose weight without requiring invasive surgery.

Also known as a intragastric balloon this non invasive surgery can greatly help patients struggling with their weight.

The procedure involves a small soft balloon being inserted into the stomach via the throat using an endoscope which is a thin, flexible telescope. Saline solution is then inserted into the balloon to fill it to an agreed discussed level and therefore leave less room in the stomach for food consumption.

This type of surgery is predominantly a short term solution and you must be aware of the hard work that surrounds this process.

As with any weight loss surgery it is important to address any underlying reasons for weight gain as these may still be applicable after the surgery. Your consultant will discuss with you in detail how lifestyle changes and dietary changes must also be strongly considered to allow the surgery to work to maximum effect. Our main aim is to achieve long term weight control.

This type of surgery is not for everyone and all options will be discussed prior to any procedure.

If you are paying for your own treatment all costs will be discussed and explained prior to any treatment taking place. This will be confirmed in writing along with any surgeon fees, anaesthetist fees and hospital charges prior to admission.
