Mr Ash Alam
Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist
Mr Alam grew up in Southport, Merseyside and London and graduated from the Medical College of St Bartholomew's Hospital in London in 1994 where he was rewarded the Matthews Duncan prize in Obstetrics & Gynaecology.
He trained in obstetrics and gynaecology mainly in north and east London and also spent some time in New Zealand. Mr Alam has been a Consultant Gynaecologist since 2006, practising in Wirral and Liverpool and has a particular interest in the modern treatment and management options for heavy, irregular and painful periods.
He is trained in gynaecological ultrasound and therefore for patience convienience, he is able to offer a service that includes discussion, examination, ultrasound and treatment in the same visit. As a colposcopist he is also able to advise and treat women with abnormal smear tests. If a surgical solution is necessary, Mr Alam is trained in the full range of general gynaecological procedures, including keyhole (laparoscopic) surgery.
He is keen to promote the use of newer procedures such as endometrial ablation for heavy periods as an alternative to hysterectomy. Some of the newer procedures can be carried out under local anaesthetic if a patient wishes not to undergo a general anaesthetic.
