Mr Malcolm Burgess

Consultant Cardiologist

Dr Burgess is a clinical cardiologist providing comprehensive invasive and non-invasive services for patients with all types of heart disease. Appointments can be made available at short notice and care is provided in a safe and comfortable environment.

 

Dr Burgess trained at the North West Regional Cardiac Centre at Wythenshawe Hospital in Manchester and in Merseyside. After completing his MD thesis in echocardiography he moved to the University of Queensland in Brisbane as a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow to undertake advanced training in cardiac ultrasound. Thereafter, he returned to the UK to complete full specialist accreditation in cardiology and general medicine.

 

Since taking up his NHS Consultant position at Aintree University Hospital in 2007 Dr Burgess has played a leading role in delivering/developing a high quality echocardiography laboratory service with a central role in stress echocardiography. Dr Burgess is a member of the Echocardiography Steering Group of the Cheshire and Merseyside Cardiac and Stroke Network.

 

He is also active in pacemaker implantation and all aspects of diagnostic cardiac catheterisation. Dr Burgess is clinical audit lead for cardiology at Aintree and organises teaching programs for medical students and junior doctors. He is an examiner for the Royal College of Physicians.

 

Although clinical work is Dr Burgess’ primary responsibility he continues to be actively involved in research in cardiovascular disease. He has collaborative projects with other departments that have attracted research grants and is an Honorary Lecturer at the University of Liverpool. Dr Burgess has authored over 50 published articles in peer-reviewed journals. He has also given lectures nationally as well as internationally on various echocardiography topics.
