Eyelid Surgery (Blepharaplasty)
The eyes are unfortunately are the area of the face that can show ageing more so than any other area. Eyelid surgery is used to remove the excess tissue and skin around the eye when it becomes fatty and aged.
Most women have the same reasons for wanting eyelid surgery and that is to give their face a smoother and more youthful look. The decision however still requires careful consideration and we advise a thorough discussion with your consultant prior to any treatment.
The operation involves a small incision being made in the natural folds of the eyelid and any excess tissue and skin removed. Fine stitching will be used to close the cut to minimalise any scarring, all of which will fade given time.
This operation can be performed under local or general anaesthetic depending on the patient and consultant's choice.
You will generally only have to stay in the hospital for one night but will be advised to take a week off work following the operation to allow the area to settle down with a further two weeks of avoiding any strenuous activity.
Some tenderness can be expected and if there is any pain this can be eased with the use of painkillers, this can be discussed with your consultant.
If you are paying for your own treatment all costs will be discussed and explained prior to any treatment taking place. This will be confirmed in writing along with any surgeon fees, anaesthetist fees and hospital charges prior to admission.
