Mr Dean WIlliams
Professor Dean Williams is a Consultant Vascular Surgeon at The Sefton Suite with a specialist interest and proven track record in diabetic foot and wound healing research and clinical practice.
Major limb amputation is one of the most destructive complications of diabetes around the World. Amputation is generally caused by diabetic foot sepsis, a soft tissue infection with a life expectancy for over 50% of patients being only four years post amputation.
As a newly appointed consultant vascular surgeon in 2006, he developed a diabetic foot and wound service within a vascular unit which achieved global recognition, reducing major amputation rates by over 90%, to levels comparable with the very best reported in the world. He was awarded a Personal Chair in recognition of his work in 2015.
